From the Afro-Indigenous rhythms of Bullerengue and Cumbia, to Currulao and Bunde on the Pacific Coast, Calypso on the Caribbean islands, Bambuco and Joropo in the plains, to countless "modern" versions of all these traditional folk music styles, Colombia is becoming recognized as one of the most diverse musical countries in the world.

The "Colombian Music PowerHouses" project is a humble attempt to show the immense diversity of our country's music and culture to a wider public. For this purpose we’ve gathered together as independent music labels; a joint collaboration between seven key Colombian "PowerHouses" to bring you a non-exclusive selection of today's Colombian music. We know there are other labels and artists out there who deserve just as much attention and visibility as the ones who were brought together in this compilation, but we hope these picks will arouse your curiosity and inspire you to dig deeper into the fascinating world of Colombian music.

Desde los ritmos afro indigenas del bullerengue y la cumbia hasta el currulao y el bunde de la selva del Pacífico, el calypso y el mento de las islas del caribe y el bambuco y el joropo de los llanos, todos en sus versiones más raizales pero también en sus mutaciones "modernas", Colombia es y ha sido siempre uno de los países con mas diversidad musical del mundo.

El proyecto de Colombian music powerhouses es un intento de mostrar esta inmensa diversidad y de sumar públicos para que más gente se conecte con su movida musical. Siete de los sellos independientes más representativos del país se han unido para presentar esta selección de lo que suena y se produce actualmente en Colombia. Somos consientes de que hay más sellos y mucha música que se nos escapa y que merece el mismo reconocimiento que la selección que se incluye en esta recopilación, pero este es nuestro intento por hacer un llamado en alianza y despertar la curiosidad para que más gente busque a fondo y se conecte con el fascinante mundo de la música colombiana.

Why do you love this album? Well, it is the quality of ALL the Analog Africa releases , the astonishing presentation- artwork, AWESOME booklets, the mastering, the music first of all and the feeling you connect with it and the artists involved. Due to not earning enough I changed from vinyl to CDs, but I am glad for the high quality downloads of the vinyl only releases that you are able to burn to disc. Together with a chosen few others AA is a greater than great label. Period. Markus Bader
